Introduction from the Chair, Steve Hodkinson
Summer awaits us and this year our Festival celebrates local talent, young and not so young, with a programme that ranges across the cultural spectrum. At our Waterside home we have dance, choirs, jazz both modern and traditional, orchestral music, a big band, floral arts, poetry, youth drama, yoga, wine tasting and a Robbie Williams tribute act. We also celebrate the 250 years’ service by Slater Heelis to our community with a showcase music show on June 10th in the Waterside Theatre. The photographic competition organised by Sale Photographic Society returns with an exhibition in the HIYA Rooms and there is drama for all in Walkden Gardens. There is food, fun and picnics in our parks for Father’s Day and more. Music and comedy feature at Sale Sports Club, fun on the canal with the annual canal barge parade, and Outdoor Learning, Arts and paddling in association with Grip Adventure. Events in churches, the town centre, Stanley Square and by organisations and businesses add to the richness of our Festival. There is even a Festival Pizza at Mano a Bocca in the Waterside Plaza.
This is my first year as Chair of the Committee and I want to pay tribute to Garth Jones whose 17 years as Chair has seen the Festival flourish through thick and thin. Thank you Garth and enjoy your role as President of the Festival Committee.
Our brochure outlines the Festival events. Our website, salefestival.org.uk, Facebook page and the ‘Festival What’s On’ at the Waterside Arts website provide detail. Tickets for the Waterside Arts venue can be purchased through the box office.
We aim to raise funds for our local charities whose care and commitment help to bind us together. Through your support of our June events, you will be contributing to the well-being of members of our community.
Join us and make June in Sale a month to remember.
Thank you.
Steve Hodkinson
