‘Let’s get Creative’

 A fun event for under 12s  with craft and poetry workshops, live music, face painting and story time organised by Sale Library, Trafford Events, Spotlight Drama, and friends of the Sale Poetry Trail.

‘Everyone Can’, Floor 1, 25 School Road, Sale M33, 7XX

Our local charity ‘Everyone Can’ is holding gaming sessions on Wednesday evenings throughout June for children with a disability and their families 4pm to 5:30pm and 6pm to 7:30pm and on Thursday mornings for adults with a disability 10:30am to 12 noon.

Gaming sessions can have up to 30 players using the latest consoles and technology. Open to every disability, though please contact  prior to your first visit to ensure you get the most out of your time at the centre.

Waterside Arts presents the film ‘Viva Las Vegas’ with Elvis Presley

Waterside Arts’ friendly films make cinema more accessible for people living with dementia or additional access needs, their families to have  a fun and inclusive experience in a safe and welcoming environment. With no adverts and  low lights, the audience can move around and sing along to any musical numbers. A short halfway break means that free tea and coffee can be served.

Waterside Robert Bolt Theatre – 2.00pm ( the film lasts 1 hour 25 minutes) Tickets are £6 with a free place for an essential companion if required.

‘Sale Comic Con’

Wow Events present a free fun day out for the whole family with Sale Comic Con.  Special guests from the world of film and television include Phil Fletcher with Hacker T. Dog from CBBC, Willie Coppen from the world of Star Wars, George Coppen from Willow, and actor Clem So from Dr Who and many other films and shows.

 

From the world of comics  guests attending include Lew Stringer and Laura Howell from The Beano, Marc Jackson from The Phoenix  and Brian M. Clark and John Jackson from The Mancunian among others.

 

You can see a Tardis, meet a Dalek, a Cyberman or take a look at The A Team’s van. You can also take part in one of our three cosplay competitions for children under 8,  for teens under 15, and for adults.

There will also be lots of traders selling comics, toys, and memorabilia from tv and film.

Artful Playground presents ‘Minifest’ - A Gig for Kids that Adults will Love too

‘MiniFest’ is a fun, live musical experience for children. With original songs written especially to stimulate young imaginations and encourage physical activity, and some familiar favourites too. Played by the brilliant Artful Playground Band you are treated to a wide range of musical styles from Rock and Roll to Gypsy Jazz, to rap. Although aimed at 2-8 years olds ‘MiniFest’ will have family members of all ages up on their feet having a jolly, musical party together.

Amy Webber with Hootin’ Annies -‘Up Close and Personal – from standards to stand up and everything in between’

“Up Close & Personal with Amy Webber” promises to be an utterly entertaining experience with an artist unleashed to do what she does best. This one-off show will be a first for Amy, weaving together jazz classics, weird and wonderful stories, and hilarious comedy. 

Amy will be singing some of her all-time favourite songs while delving into anecdotes from her childhood in Japan to how she accidentally fell into comedy, careers tried and failed, and music she discovered along the way. Expect soulful singing, unfiltered storytelling, and captivating entertainment from a performer who is unashamedly herself. 

Amy is an award-winning comedian and vocalist, as heard on BBC Radio 4. A versatile voice and flare for performance have led to a diverse and exciting career as a singer, musical comedian, and songwriter. With an degree in Opera and a masters in Pop (Royal Northern College of Music), she is excited to be returning to Manchester for this intimate and exclusive show.

Winner of 'Best Stand Up Comedy' at Manchester Fringe (2023), Amy's debut one woman comedy show was praised as “a divinely constructed comedy hour” (Playbill) and alongside a sell-out run at Edinburgh Fringe, was added to the Telegraph's '35 of the funniest shows of the Fringe' list. As a singer, Amy has performed in iconic venues such as the Wigmore Hall and Abbey Road Studios and as a songwriter she has written songs for the likes of Oxford University Press, BBC Radio Manchester, and Manchester’s very own Take Back Theatre.

‘Artificial Intelligence and Aliens: how modern astrophysics is searching for extra-terrestrial intelligence.’ Professor Anna Scaife

 

What do we expect the echoes of alien civilisations to look like? Why are radio telescopes a promising way to search for them? The radio Universe is a noisy place and separating out interesting signals that may point to extra-terrestrial intelligence is a difficult task. In this talk we’ll explore how modern methods in artificial intelligence (AI) are now being used to search for alien techno-signatures in data from the world’s leading radio observatories.

 

Anna Scaife is Professor of Radio Astronomy at the University of Manchester and Head of Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics Interferometry Centre of Excellence.

‘Monday Night Blues Live’

‘He Loves me, He Loves me not’

Authentic voices and lived experiences. Fifteen-year-old Lexi and her siblings battle through stereotypes from their teachers whilst attempting to break free from generational trauma. Their mother’s substance dependency has their self-esteem on the floor-the perfect conditions for an exploitative man to enter Lexi’s life. Thrown into a whirlwind of manipulation, drug trafficking and coercive control, a community preyed upon and gutted through county lines drug trafficking. 

 

Written by Anthea Cribbin, directed by George Bailey and performed by the young people and community of Gorse Hill Studios.

‘Primary School Choir Celebration’

Choirs from Primary Schools in Trafford take to the platform to perform songs of their own choice and then come together ‘en masse’ under the direction of Clare Cooper. An hour and a half of uplifting songs!

Sallow Tree Concerts presents ‘A Night at the Ballet with Mercury Strings, Rachel Li and Rachel Armstrong’

Following on from the success of last year’s sell-out String Quartet recital at Sale’s Waterside Arts, Sallow Tree Concerts is delighted to welcome back the superb Mercury Strings for a very special collaboration with two outstanding ballet dancers, for what promises to be a very special evening of beautiful string arrangements of ballet music, along with specially choreographed dance.  

 

Ballet dancer Rachel Li was born and raised in Hong Kong, trained at the renowned Rambert School of Ballet and has since toured around the UK with the Emergence Dance Company, whilst Rachel Armstrong from UK, won a place at the prestigious Royal Ballet School before becoming just the 7th British dancer of all time to win a place at Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet Academy. She has since been working with Ballet Cymru and Northern Dance.   

 

Together they are a formidable dance duo, and this collaboration, with the exquisite playing of Mercury Strings, showcases some of the most beautiful excerpts of ballet music ever written.  Music-lovers and ballet-lovers alike will be treated to a tasting menu of ballet, including excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Waltzes and Polkas from Johann Strauss, and the sublime music of Saint Saens “The Swan”. 

 

Destined to be a highlight of this year’s Sale Festival, early booking is advised.
